How To Properly Pack Your Boxes
Picking The Right Size Box
It is imperative to know what size box is needed for the right items being packed. Dedicate medium to larger boxes for linens, clothing, stuffed animals, etc. Glassware, books, and heavier items should be dedicated for smaller boxes.
Dedicating heavier and more fragile items to smaller boxes will provide a tighter pack for more protection, and will help keep the integrity of the box intact. Packing an abundance of heavy items in medium to large boxes can affect the integrity of the box, with giving potential for the bottom to tear and give out.
Packing Your Box Correctly
It is very important when packing your belongings into boxes, that heavier items go first, and continue the packing with lighter items towards the top. This will prevent items from crushing one another in the packed boxes. Try the best to keep the balance of the box as even as possible, helping us move them safer with dollies.
Glassware should be protected with bubble wrap, or at the very least, with packing paper. Be sure the surround the glassware completely with packing material and secure it with tape. For the best result, cups, plates, and bowls are best protected with dividers within a box to help limit the shifting of the items.
The box itself should be properly assembled with the correct packing tape. Make sure to make at least two passes along the seams of the box's bottom, and for extra strength, make two passes against the seam as well, making a letter H shape on the bottom of the box.
Labeling Your Boxes
It is the best practice to pack your fragile items together, so they get the same treatment all around. Any box that has a collective of fragile items should be clearly labelled "Fragile" or "Breakable". This insures proper loading of the box in our truck, and helps identify breakables.
For an easier unload process within your move, it helps to have your boxes labeled with the title of each room. For example "Living Room", "Kitchen", "Master Bedroom", etc. When we do the walk through of your new home we identify what room is what, and proper labeling on the boxes with the description of these rooms will expedite the unload.
